PBIS
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. PBIS creates schools where all students succeed.
Team Husky is Hickory Elementary's PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) program. Our 3 main rules are RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and READY. We define and teach students what respect, responsibility, and ready look like in all school settings. Students earn Doggy Dollars by following the school rules. Doggy Dollars can be used in a variety of ways both in the classroom and during schoolwide activities. Other positive recognitions include: Positive Referrals, and Marking Period Certificates.
Using the PBIS framework, we also have a defined discipline policy. Students are given verbal warnings and redirected when behaviors do not meet expectations. Discipline Referrals are used as needed. Referral data is reviewed monthly and program initiatives are created and adjusted, as needed.
Families play an important role in PBIS. Talk with your child about the school rules and review your expectations. Check out their Live School account to see If your child receives a Disciple Referral, discuss the problem behavior and what better choices they could have made.
