Title I
Hickory Elementary is school-wide Title I and Community school. We receive extra federal and state monies to support academic achievement. These specific funds are used in a variety of ways including additional staff, after school activities, assistance with transportation, instructional materials for students and families, family events, and many other ways.
We look forward to all our families getting involved throughout the school year! Along with family engagement we need your feedback! If you have suggestions, comments or questions or would like to be part of our decision making committee please contact Sarah Camden, Assistant Principal at CamdeSar@wcps.k12.md.us, Samantha David, Family Liaison at DavidSam@wcps.k12.md.us or Julie Matheny, Community School Manager at MatheJul@wcps.k12.md.us.

Looking at our entire school and taking into account information on the academic achievement of children in relation to the challenging State academic standards, particularly the needs of children who are failing, or at-risk of failing, to meet the challenging State academic standards and any other factors determined by the local educational agency. Additional data sources were used this year to determine unfinished learning and areas to provide acceleration.
Based on the lack of growth with our ESSA Subgroups (ML and SpEd), we are an identified ATSI school. We are partnered with TNTP for the following supports:
-
Pre-K, K, 3, 4: Literacy Focus
-
5: Math Focus
Teacher/Paraprofessional Qualifications
As a parent or guardian of a student in a Title I school, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teacher(s) and paraprofessionals working with your child. If, at any time, you would like to receive this information about your child's teacher, or paraprofessionals working with your child, please send a written request into school.
Federal law requires us to let you know when a teacher or substitute who does not have a certain set of credentials teaches your child for four or more consecutive weeks. In the event that this would occur, you would be notified in a timely manner. If you have questions about this process, please contact the Title I office at 301-766-2936.
Title I, Part A Grant
Washington County Public Schools must ensure that the Title I grant application is developed with timely and meaningful consultation with teachers, principals, school leaders, paraprofessionals, school personnel and with the parents and families of children served under this grant. Please consider taking a few minutes to provide us with your valuable input by clicking on the link below. Thank you!
